Can you buy Carpet, Tile, hardwoods, and Laminates at Home Depot or Lowes? Of course you can? However, you need to know some information first. I visited Home Depot after hearing their radio ads offering "any size house" install for only $49. I wanted to see how they do it, since we both know it takes over 7 hours of hard work for a three man crew to install a typical house of carpet. I was surprised with what I found. Home Depot was charging more for the carpet alone than my company would charge for a comparable carpet, 8lb rebond carpet pad, and installation! Essentially what Home Depot is doing is raising the prices of their materials to compensate for the "great deal" on the installation. They also make you pay for the pad which is over-priced by about 250%. By the time they get to charging you for installation, you've already paid 20-30% higher than my company would charge. We all get our carpet from the same place, Dalton, GA. The major carpet manufacturer's are Shaw Industries, Mohawk, and Beaulieu Residential (also known as Coronet). Home Depot does not have an exclusive line of carpet, however they do change the style and color names making it impossible for you to price check. If you are shopping at Lowe's or Home Depot, and find a product that you would like to check the cost with Genesis Flooring ask the salesmen these questions:
1.) What is the face weight of the carpet?
2.) What type of yarn is the carpet made of?
3.) Is this a Stainmaster product?
4.) What is the style of this carpet? (Berber, Cut-Pile, Frize', Long-Cut Frize')
If you can provide me with some of these answers, I can offer you a carpet of the same quality for much less.
