Is buying at a Wholesaler, such as Lumber Liquidators, a good idea?
Sometimes the deals at big box retailers are too good to pass up. In some instances I would even encourage consumers to buy their products. But beware of the "extras" they try to tack on that rack up the final price at checkout. One way they get you is to offer "Free Installation" on certain products, when in reality they have already charged you for the installation by packaging the installation price with the material. They will also offer a cheap per square foot price on the material, then an outrageous price on labor and/or installation. In the past when my customers have decided to buy their material from Lumber Liquidators, I always encourage them to buy 10 % extra for future repairs. There are reasons why these materials are so cheap. Hundreds of mills go out of business each year, leaving thousands of discontinued product lines out there. A big box retailer will then swoop in and buy the whole lot and then offer it to the consumer at 50% off the suggested retail price. What they don't tell you is that you will never be able to find this specific product ever again, and say you want to do your dining room later, the product won't be available at any price. If you're going to buy from Lumber Liquidators always think in the big picture and get extra material in case of a water leak or any type of accident that may occur that would cause you to replace part of your floor. By the time you factor in the extra material and the trips back and forth to unload materials, it would've been better to buy a name brand product with a manufacturer warranty (that won't be offered with discontinued products). My company only sells name brand products by big companies such as Armstrong, Shaw, Bruce, Hartco, and Anderson. Products that have a proven track record that my company can stand behind with a guarantee of satisfaction. If you'd still like to save a few pennies, we'd be happy to install your Lumber Liquidators materials for a fair price.
